ANALYSIS OF SEISMIC PROTECTION METHODS FOR MAIN AND URBAN PIPELINES CONSIDERING THE ABOVEGROUND INSTALLATION OF GAS PIPELINES IN THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA

             Abstract This article presents a comprehensive analysis of seismic protection methods for main pipelines with special emphasis on above-ground gas pipelines widely used in the Republic of Armenia. The study considers the specific seismic response mechanisms of above-ground pipeline systems subjected to strong ground motions. Structural, geotechnical, and routing-based seismic protection methods are classified and analyzed. Special attention is paid to the studies of above-ground main gas pipelines, which are widely used in the Republic of Armenia under conditions of complex mountainous terrain and high seismic hazard. The main mechanisms of seismic impact on pipeline systems are examined, and structural, engineering-geotechnical, and planning methods and technologies for enhancing seismic resistance are classified, along with an assessment of their adaptability to the conditions of the Republic of Armenia. Conclusions and practical recommendations are formulated regarding the application of rational solutions in the design and reconstruction of above-ground gas pipelines.
