Police female officers in Tbilisi

Flags of different countries, women with various uniforms of law enforcement agencies and warm spring atmosphere in hospitable Tbilisi.

From 3-6 of March, 2020 the female representatives of law enforcement agencies from the Republics of North Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Moldova, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Georgia, Ukraine and the Republic of Armenia were gathered in capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, whose goal was to participate in annual conference on “Women in Policing”, held in 2020, arranged by US embassy Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Office (INL).

Armenia was introduced by female representatives of various subdivisions of Police of RA and Investigative Committee of RA. Educational Complex of Police of RA was represented by lecturer of Chair of Social Sciences and Psychology of College, Police Captain Mariam Karapetyan and Inspector of International cooperation and IT division, Police Senior Lieutenant Ani Ghukasyan.

At the beginning of training course Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Vakhtang Gomelauri had welcoming speech, congratulating regarding the spring holiday and expressing his gratitude to the organizers of the event. 

-The project is intended for development of knowledge, capacity building and skills for women, serving in law enforcement agencies, as well as it has essential role and significance for exchange.

The US ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan congratulated the participants and organizers. She gave an honor for a minute to dead police female officers during their duties and emphasized that the role of women of law enforcement agencies is quite important to prevent violence and crime, and it is easier for a woman to communicate with all representatives of the society.

During other days of the Training course the participants got acquainted with the experience of female police officers, serving in different states of USA, their success stories, heard the lectures of American experts on communication, leadership skills, activities, mission and principles of female officers, as well as implemented some practical assessments, actively participated in tactical training exercises.

Mariam Karapetyan professes vocational psychology and Communication skills at Educational Complex of Police of RA.  She is going to use the knowledge, gained at the conference during her lectures, as  all lectures of the conference, according to her, were  awesomely interesting and instructive.

On the given question what kind of skills, got from the lectures, she could emphasize, necessary for female officers in order to better communicate, Mariam Karapetyan answered: understanding the other, showing empathy, not criticizing the problems and humans.

According to the participant, the conference, generally, was an opportunity  to meet with international experts, cooperate with them, as well as for exchange with police officers from different countries.
